Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how ProvenMath (“ProvenMath,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you visit provenmath.com (this marketing site) or use our learning platform at courses.provenmath.com (the “LMS” or “Service”).
ProvenMath is currently free to use. Students can sign up without approval. Teachers and schools apply for access and require approval from ProvenMath or an authorized administrator. We may update this policy when pricing, licensing, or access rules change.
This is a practical starter policy for an educational product. If you use ProvenMath through a school or district, your institution may also provide its own privacy notice. We plan to revise this policy as the Service grows; have qualified legal counsel review it before relying on it for compliance decisions.
1. Who this policy applies to
We may collect information from:
- Students who learn in the LMS
- Teachers and administrators who manage classes, content, and reports
- Parents and guardians who use the parent portal with an invite
- Visitors who browse this marketing site without signing in
2. Information we collect
Account and profile information
When you create an account or are provisioned by a school, we may collect:
- Name and email address
- Account role (student, teacher, admin, or parent/guardian)
- Approval status and who authorized your access
- Display name and profile preferences
- Authentication data managed through our identity provider (for example, email/password or Google sign-in)
Educational and usage information
When you use the LMS, we may collect information related to learning activity, including:
- Course, module, and lesson progress
- Quiz and test responses, scores, and attempt history
- Class enrollment, roster, and gradebook data visible to authorized teachers
- Engagement metrics such as streaks, XP, badges, and completion status
- Messages sent through in-platform messaging, where enabled
- Live class and proctoring session status when those features are used
AI tutor and insights data
ProvenMath includes an AI-powered Socratic tutor and teacher-facing AI Insights. When students use the tutor, we may store conversation messages, skill or misconception signals, and summaries used to provide contextual help and teacher reports. Teachers with appropriate access may review tutor activity and class-level insights.
Content you or your school provide
Teachers and administrators may upload or create course content (lessons, quizzes, assets, worksheets). That content and related metadata are stored to deliver the Service.
Marketing site analytics
When you visit provenmath.com, we may use privacy-oriented analytics to understand aggregate traffic (for example, page views and referrers). We use Plausible Analytics, which does not use advertising cookies and does not track you across other websites. If we enable Google Analytics on the marketing site, it will be disclosed here and configured with IP anonymization where available.
Analytics on the marketing site are separate from learning data in the LMS. We do not use LMS student activity for marketing-site advertising profiles.
Technical and device information
We automatically collect certain technical data, such as:
- IP address, browser type, and device information
- Log data, timestamps, and error diagnostics
- Cookies, local storage, or similar technologies needed for sign-in, preferences, and PWA functionality
This marketing site is largely static. The LMS may store session and progress data locally on your device in addition to server-side storage.
3. How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Service
- Authenticate users and enforce role-based access
- Track learning progress, grades, and teacher reports
- Power AI tutoring and AI Insights features in context of the current lesson
- Communicate about accounts, security, and support requests
- Protect against abuse, fraud, and unauthorized access
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell personal information. We do not use student data for unrelated third-party advertising.
4. How we share information
We may share information:
- Within your organization: Teachers and admins see roster, progress, and grade data for classes they manage. Parents/guardians see information made available through the parent portal.
- With service providers: We use trusted vendors to host and operate the Service, including Google Firebase (authentication, database, storage, and cloud functions) and Google Gemini (AI tutoring and insights). These providers process data on our behalf under contractual safeguards.
- For legal and safety reasons: When required by law, to protect rights and safety, or to respond to valid legal process.
- With your consent or at the direction of a school that provisioned your account.
5. Children’s privacy
ProvenMath is designed for educational use. If you are under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction), you may use the Service only with verifiable consent from a parent, guardian, or authorized school official, as applicable.
Schools and districts are responsible for obtaining any consent required under laws such as the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) when they provide ProvenMath to students. Parents may contact us to review or request deletion of a child’s account information where permitted by law and our agreements with the school.
6. School and district use
When a school or district uses ProvenMath, it may act as the controller of student education records under applicable laws (including FERPA in the United States). In those cases, ProvenMath processes information as a service provider to support instruction, assessment, and reporting according to the school’s directions and our agreement with the institution.
7. Data retention
We retain information for as long as needed to provide the Service, fulfill legitimate educational and business purposes, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Retention periods may differ for active accounts, archived classes, and backup systems. Schools may request deletion or export subject to applicable law and technical constraints.
8. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information, including access controls, encrypted transport (HTTPS), and role-based permissions in the LMS. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access, correct, or delete certain personal information
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Receive a portable copy of information you provided
- Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based
Account holders can update some profile information in the LMS. For other requests, contact us at privacy@provenmath.com. If your account is managed by a school, we may refer your request to the school.
10. International users
ProvenMath is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from other regions, your information may be processed in the U.S. or where our service providers operate. We take steps intended to protect information consistent with this policy.
11. Third-party links
The Service may link to external sites (for example, course assets or sign-in providers). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — including when we add paid plans, change how access is approved, or expand data practices. We will post the revised version on this page and update the effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the Service or by email where appropriate.
